CINCINNATI, Jan 15–Xavier Leadership Center (XLC), which successfully launched its first Public Sector Leader Certificate Program in September 2013, has expanded its program offerings and will now be offering two sessions of the program this Spring. The program, which was designed for leaders of government organizations, including law enforcement, public safety, and city management, who seek the knowledge, skills, and tools required to successfully lead their organizations, is now the go-to leadership program for law enforcement officials in the Greater Cincinnati area. Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil, who sent his Training Coordinator this past Fall to try out the first session, will be sending an additional 45 commanders over the next three years, 15 of whom will attend this Spring. The six-day program (spread out over a six week time period) covers topics that specifically affect the public sector, such as socio-cultural, political, economic and technological trends, ethics, human resource management issues, as well as external communication with the public and media. Additionally, the program is designed to empower participants to successfully lead, focusing on the development of leadership skills, including personal leadership, communication, strategy, change, and coaching and mentoring.
In September 2013, Sheriff’s Captain Earl Price, Hamilton County Sheriff Training Coordinator, attended the program and found it impactful. “I think every public servant should take the Public Sector Leadership Certificate Program. It is a completely transformational experience. Not only do you discover your strengths as a leader and a public servant, but your opportunities for growth as well.”
Sheriff Neil was pleased with Price’s experience and adds, “The ability to be a leader is innate in us all. My expectation is that my personnel develop effective leadership skills. With the help of Xavier Leadership Center I am confident this can be accomplished.”
Shelly Wallace, Associate Director of Xavier Leadership Center, who helped develop the Public Sector Leader Certificate Program with the help of Captain Douglas Weismann of the Cincinnati Police Department, shared, “Captain Price was such a delight to have in the program, and both he and Sheriff Neil have both expressed the need for this program for their Command staff. We’re excited about this partnership, and we’re looking forward to assisting with the culture change in the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.”
