The Veteran Leaders Program – On Demand is an innovative and highly engaging learning experience that combines online programming with real-life guided mentoring. The veteran’s two-part journey adopts the mindset of a mountaineering expedition.
Part one is a thirteen week, fully guided trek into basecamp and concludes with a successful assent to the “summit.” To prepare for the new mindset of a thriving business leader, the veteran becomes familiar with applied business concepts and terminology as well as developing an honest awareness of their own personality.
Each week, the veteran follows a guided program consisting of 60-90 minutes of learning, reflecting and connecting. The veteran will receive leadership and cultural assessments accompanied by AI powered coaching and insights. At basecamp, both the veteran and mentor participate in the learning industry’s most advanced change leadership simulation tool.
As the veteran makes progress towards the end of part one, they learn from thought leaders in the five-part virtual seminar series called the “Ascent.” Topics include Grit, EI/EQ, Critical Thinking and Visualization. Each element is divided into concepts in theory and then concepts in practice.
Part two of the journey focuses on furthering the veteran-mentor relationship through co-created self-development activities. The final eight months of the program gives the veteran the contextual understanding of their own corporate environment in which to maximize their program learnings.
The Veteran Leaders Program – On Demand is designed for veterans who have transitioned or are in the process of transitioning from the military and have a role identified as an emerging leader, supervisor, manager or newly placed junior executive.
The curriculum is delivered through a series of short articles, reflection activities, videos and online workshops. Surveys and personal check-ins provide a 360 degree feedback loop for maintaining progress and program deliverables.
The veteran mentor is provided with learning resources and program guide on how to engage the veteran during the connect and reflect activities.
Brad founded Strategic Minds in 2018 with a simple mission: Helping veterans thrive in the workforce by focusing on post-hire performance. This is a concept based on the fact that nearly half of all transitioning veterans fail to complete the first year of their first post-military job –double the turnover of the traditional workforce! Brad is also the founder and president of S2A Solutions, a Cincinnati-based provider of custom training solutions in the areas of culture, strategy, innovation and change leadership. Prior to founding S2A Solutions, Brad served as the chief financial officer and vice president of corporate strategy for General Tool Company, a defense and aerospace contract manufacturing firm. There he managed the firm’s $100M+ project portfolio and helped turn around the company’s performance on complex Department of Defense projects. Brad continues to advise on GTC’s financial and strategic activities. He is a graduate of the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, and holds a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering technology. Brad was also a doctoral fellow in strategy and innovation at Case Western Reserve University. Over the course of his decorated and diverse military career, he served as executive officer, department head, program manager for nuclear systems, and technical advisor for carrier electrical power systems. Brad is a frequent keynote speaker and recognized thought leader on strategy design and execution. In 2016, he was recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier as one of the city’s Forty Under 40. Chuck brings a passion for leadership development to our military and veteran communities. Over the course of his twenty-five-year career, he has developed successful early talent and management level training programs. Chuck has first-hand experience tackling military transition challenges and creating support networks for our veterans. Before joining Strategic Minds, Chuck held senior positions at a number of Fortune 500 organizations as well as mid-sized and late stage, start-up companies. Chuck has a diverse background in leadership, including roles in operations, supply chain, contract negotiations, project management, inside sales & customer service. He led major international growth initiatives for Fenner Precision and was the UK Operations Manager for Touch Bionics in Livingston, Scotland. Chuck is a graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was selected for Coltec Industries’ inaugural Leadership Program class in 1995. This highly competitive program was launched by a former General Electric executive modeled after their famed leadership programs of the early ‘90s. Chuck is a certified Lean -Six Sigma Black Belt and has taught hundreds of classes on operational performance improvement. Chuck is actively engaged with numerous veteran and civic service groups. He is currently a Director for the Cleveland chapter of Team RWB, one of the nation’s largest veteran service organizations. He also volunteers at local VA hospitals and was a board member of Junior Achievement. Chuck participates in a variety of ultra-endurance events each year including GoRuck and The Bataan Death March Memorial. He lives in Sagamore Hills, Ohio.Show More
Kristin joined Strategic Minds in 2018 with the goal of using her passion for learning design to help fellow veterans attain success in the civilian workforce. This passion stems from her experience teaching robotics and applied physics courses at the United States Naval Academy while she was on active duty. During her years at the Naval Academy, she overhauled the curriculum for two courses and spearheaded the initiative to re-write the textbook, Principles of Naval Weapon Systems. As an Active Duty Naval Engineering Duty Officer, Kristin led the redesign of a Human Computer Interface for controlling unmanned surface vehicles during launch and recovery from the Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Further, Kristin was a Nuclear Engineer and responsible for the automation and protection systems for two nuclear reactors. Kristin graduated Cum Laude from Villanova University in Mechanical Engineering and received a fellowship from the Department of Energy’s Graduate Automotive Technology Education (GATE) program to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. She wrote her thesis on a hybrid-electric powertrain control system for an autonomous vehicle. Kristin currently supports the Navy as the lead Naval Reservist for the Engineering Duty Guiding Coalition, a cadre of Engineering Duty Officers committed to developing strategic initiatives aimed at improving the EDO community. She recently moved back home to San Diego with her family and enjoys home improvement, playing the piano, reading, and sewing.Show More
Matt is an entrepreneur and experienced leader who assists organizations in leveraging technology to radically differentiate themselves from their competition. He brings a refreshingly simplistic approach to identify and implement solutions that create rapid adoption. He joined Strategic Minds in 2019 as its head of technology and program management. Matt has an extensive background in enterprise application architecture, technology management, product development, and building high performing cultures. He spent nearly 12 years as the Executive Director and Partner of ERP Suites, a Cincinnati based provider of IT solutions and ERP services. Matt’s teams have won numerous national awards for product innovation, and product distinction. Matt is a frequent speaker on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. A proud graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Matt volunteers his time back to the Greater Cincinnati Startup community through mentorships with the UC Startup Accelerator and the Hamilton County Development Commission Startup Incubation programs. In addition to his passion for technology, Matt is honored to give back to those who gave everything. He runs an annual charity event to raise money for Behind the Badge, a local cause providing support for local police, fire, military service members and their families.Show More
